Trade organisations play an important role in the art and antiques market. Their remit may include lobbying, communicating information to members, offering professional development and qualifications, organising events, setting standards and ensuring adherence to them.
Other organisations listed in this section perform different functions such as providing online marketplaces, education or supplying other services to the art and antiques trade.
eBay bans international ivory sales
11 June 2007ONLINE auction giant eBay is banning cross-border sales of ivory on all their websites. The company announced that from the end of this month sellers will only be allowed to list ivory items for sale in their own country.
NAVA to merge with NAEA
04 June 2007THE National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers (NAVA) has voted to merge with the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA).

29 May 2007The Art Fund have thrown their weight behind the campaign to save Dumfries House for the nation with a £2m pledge towards acquiring the house and its contents. Christie’s, who are due to sell the contents at a showpiece sale next month, say such good intentions have arrived too late.

North East to host first quality fair
21 May 2007The increasingly prosperous North East of England will receive its first high-end antiques fair next February when 27 LAPADA or BADA dealers descend upon Linden Hall, near Morpeth in Northumberland.
