Good sales and happy exhibitors as France’s showpiece fair moves from November to mid-September

An Asian armour dealer sold nearly all of his stand’s stock in the first few days of FAB Paris last week.

For its fourth edition, 'FAB Paris', the premier French art fair that unites 'Biennale des Antiquaires' and 'Fine Arts Paris', brings a wealth of top exhibitors, special exhibitions and a new date.

Among the opening sales at the FAB Paris fair at the newly restored Grand Palais was this Sicilian Baroque polychrome and gilt wood sculpture group of the Annunciation.

The second instalment of FAB Paris, the fair resulting from the merger of Fine Arts Paris and La Biennale, will be staged this November but for the first time it moves from its previous home at the Carrousel du Louvre.

The French fairs calendar has developed a certain rhythmical repetition over the years but this has been changed as Covid restrictions necessitate cancellations and postponements.

Fine Arts Paris, which returned for a physical staging at the Carrousel du Louvre after an online-only event last year, closed its doors on November 11 with the 55 exhibitors enjoying sales from museums and private collectors.

Non-European ethnographic art is a one of the new categories at Fine Arts Paris, represented by Patrick and Ondine Mesdagh from Brussels who will be showing a selection of pieces from four continents.

This Old Master painting by the 18th century Italian landscape artist Andrea Locatelli (1695-1741) will be shown at Fine Arts Paris by L’Horizon Chimérique from Bordeaux.

Early wallpapers and wall coverings are specialities of Carolle Thibaut-Pomerantz.

Fine Arts Paris, which last year was held as an online event, is back at the Carrousel du Louvre, its home in 2019.

Among the works that the Old Master picture dealership Galerie de Bayser, a Fine Arts Paris regular, will be showing at the fair is this equestrian portrait by Jean-Léon Gerome (1824-1904) of the famous thoroughbred Dollar.

Xavier Eeckhout specialises in animalier sculpture and for Fine Arts Paris the Parisian dealer will be focusing the spotlight on the works of Roger Godchaux (1878-1958) an artist whose catalogue raisonné he has just completed.
