The maps of 19th century cartographer, mapmaker and publisher John Tallis are described on the website of antiquarian map dealership Tooley Adams, a firm set up in 1982 selling original worldwide printed maps from the 15th to the 19th centuries, as “the last of the lavishly decorated and ornamental maps, considered to be works of art as well as geographically accurate”.
