Titchmarsh has lived with his wife in a Grade II-listed late 17th century home for more than 20 years but they have now decided to downsize to be closer to their family.

He has instructed antiques dealer David Foord-Brown Antiques to sell the collection which includes Regency ceramics, 18th century furniture and objects d’art.

David Foord-Brown Antiques will hold an exhibition of the collection from October 18-25 in its Cuckfield gallery in West Sussex.

David Foord-Brown and his partner Sean Barry have been friends with Titchmarsh for many years.

Barry added: “He is a very popular chap and so far the people we have spoken to about the collection may not necessarily buy antiques but they like the connection to Alan Titchmarsh and are interested in buying something he has owned.”

Titchmarsh said: “We are just custodians of these fine objects and now is the time for others to cherish and enjoy them.”
