After the traditional pre-match lunch of soup and doorstep sandwiches, both teams made their way out to the links and following four hours’ mortal hand to hand combat the match was tied at 2-2 and all declared that golf was the winner on the day. The societies will share the RoBerti Trophy for the next 12 months.
FAGS will celebrate its centenary in 2026 with a few special events including a match played with hickory golf clubs at Princes GC in Sandwich, Kent, in May. The society aims to pay tribute to its founders by playing with similar equipment to that used by the original members back in 1926.
They have also secured a supply of vintage golf balls for use with the hickories which will be supplied by Manfred Schotten Sporting Antiques of Burford (sportantiques.co.uk).
Members of the trade wishing to get involved with the society should contact Simon Berti via the website fineartgolf.com
