Battered but worth $140,000

THE miniature on the left-hand page depicting St John is badly rubbed, as are some of the vellum text leaves, but the defective and incomplete manuscript of the Gospel of Luke and John in Greek shown right sold for $140,000 (£110,235)as part of Dr Charles Caldwell Ryrie bible collection at Sotheby’s New York on December 5.
