Tajan

Tajan are an auction house based in Paris. They were founded by Jacques Tajan in 1994 who later sold the company in 2000 to LVMH, the luxury goods conglomerate run by Bernard Arnault. In 2004, the firm was acquired by Rodica Seward.

The saleroom hold over 60 sales per year in a wide range of specialist areas, as well as a prestigious annual auction in Monte Carlo.  They have representatives across France as well as in Switzerland and Belgium.

Solimena sets new high at Tajan

The highlight of Tajan’s (25/20/12%buyer’s premium) Old Masters auction held on June 22 was an impressive large-scale modello created by the Italian artist Francesco Solimena (1657-1747) in preparation for his painting for the ceiling of San Domenico Maggiore, in Naples.

The Madoura pottery founded by Suzanne and Georges Ramié in Vallauris, a village in the south of France renowned for pottery production, was a popular place for many artists in the post-war years. From 1948-55 Pablo Picasso lived in Vallauris and divided his time between painting and creating ceramics at Madoura.
