Among the most eye-catching pictures that emerged at the summer auctions around the country were a couple of early 20th century portraits of young women.

British artist Charles Haslewood Shannon (1863-1937) is closely associated with the Bloomsbury Group, the famous collective of writers, intellectuals and artists in early 20th-century London.

Auctioneer and valuer Aubrey Dawson and jewellery expert Rachel Hutchinson, both previously of Dawsons in Maidenhead, have formed a new auction house called Aubreys.
