Barrie, who played Arnold Rimmer in the popular BBC Two science fiction comedy Red Dwarf (which ran from 1988-99) and Gordon Brittas in the BBC sitcom The Brittas Empire (1991-97), has consigned the items to Charterhouse’s specialist auction of automobilia which will be held in Sherborne on Wednesday, September 24.
“I spent a great day with Chris at his home near London looking around his collection,” says auctioneer Richard Bromell. “A naturally funny and charming guy, he has had a lifelong interest in classic cars, motorcycles and automobilia, and is having a sort-out of part of his collection.”
The items include petrol pump globes, enamel sign, and other automobilia - even a group of vintage Rolls-Royce spanners.

Chris holding a rare AJS Motor Cycles enamel sign. It is estimated at £800-£1,200 in the sale at Charterhouse.
Barrie is a well-known collector and car enthusiast. In 1995 he released a video titled Chris Barrie’s Motoring Wheel Nuts (via BBC Video) which was billed as “a hilarious trip through the world of motoring”.
