While oil paintings represent a large part of the sector, other mediums adopted by artists across the ages include drawings, watercolours, prints and photographs.

Auction record for Cedric Morris in Chichester for the second year running
19 April 2017A new auction record was set for modern British painter Sir Cedric Morris (1889-1982) at Chichester’s Henry Adams which hammered down the still life oil on canvas ‘Wild Flowers’ at £130,000.

18 April 2017Marielle Barde, Edgar Degas’ great-niece, was one of the heirs and vendors of the Degas studio drawings and attended Christie’s Paris sale. This was the second such dispersal the family had held in these rooms of artworks from her famous great-uncle following a house move some decades ago.

Stair Sainty's ‘true’ Degas dancer discovery
10 April 2017Two versions of Edgar Degas’ (1834-1917) statue of Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans exist. The traditionally recognised example, one bronze of which stands in the Tate Modern, was the only one known for many years and is a posthumous cast of Degas’ wax sculpture.
