The time has come for the second of Robert Young Antiques’ three annual events. The Exhibition of Antiques Folk Art is the only one to take place in the dealer’s Battersea gallery and this year runs from May 11-20.

A week before their new joint space opens, dealers Charles Wallrock and David Brooker stand in the shell of their gallery sipping cups of tea, admiring the fresh paint job and speculating on how long it will take to lay the carpet.

Before the poet Edward Lear sent the owl and the pussycat out to sea in a beautiful pea green boat in his 1867 poem, he combined them in this c.1846 watercolour.

Daniel Levy opened his gallery, Daniel Raphael, in Church Street, Marylebone, earlier this year. The contemporary art gallery features the works of emerging and established artists. In the future he plans to increase his involvement in the fair scene.

English and Continental Antiques, the Suffolk dealership, has its second selling exhibition of 2017 on May 27.

Saxon Durrant started his business Metroretro in 1994. His Essex firm offers bespoke and reclaimed furniture and also provides props to film production companies. He will be exhibiting at Salvo Fair on June 23-25.

The Buxton Antiques Fair, organised by Cooper Events, runs from May 18-21 in Buxton Pavilion Gardens. It is a quiet yet well-respected presence in the annual fair calendar and has withstood many market changes since it opened more than 50 years ago.

Ancient art dealer Barakat Gallery has opened an extra US location in West Hollywood to the international galleries run by Fayez Barakat.

Next up from the Antiques Dealers Fair Limited (ADFL) is The Antiques & Fine Art Fair at Harewood, which runs from May 12-14. The event returns for its sixth year in a purpose-built marquee on the grounds of Harewood House in West Yorkshire.
